Canoe U: Adult Canoeing Programs

Join us for 5 days of canoeing and instruction this summer! Get qualified with the Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayaking Association. Get first hand insight into the Canadian Canoe Museum. Network, paddle and have fun with like-minded educators, teachers and paddlers from across Ontario. And this summer you have two opportunities to participate depending on what course appeals to your needs!


Summer Institute I: ORCKA Canoe Tripping Level 2

This is a week long canoe course that includes a three and a half day canoe trip, a day of moving water instruction, and a visit to the Canoe Museum. Participants successful in achieving their CT2 are then able to organize and lead short and multi-day canoe trips. This certification is integral in one's repertoire of skills for working with guiding organizations, educational bodies and other institutions that provide canoe tripping experiences.

When: July 9-13, 2007
Location: Kawartha Highlands
Fees: $600 per participant plus taxes. This fee includes one's food, campsite fees, equipment, manuals, ORCKA membership fee, instruction, and program supplies.
Enrolment: Space is limited to 10 participants (register early to avoid disappointment)

Summer Institute II: ORCKA Flatwater Instructor

This is an Instructor level course that allows participants to devote 5 full days to perfecting their tandem and solo canoeing skills with the main focus on instruction techniques and practice teaching. Participants that earn their Instructors certification are able to instruct and certify Flatwater A,B,C,D courses. This is a valuable credential for educators that want to teach canoeing skills to students or the public and also grant certification in the process.

When: August 13th to 17th, 2007
Location: Silent Lake Provincial Park, Bancroft area
Fees: $600 per participant plus taxes. This fee includes one's food, campsite fees, equipment, manuals, ORCKA membership fee, instruction and program supplies.

To Register for either of these courses:

  1. Download the appropriate Registration Form (either CT2 for July course or FWI for August course) and Waiver.
  2. Fill out the form and either email, mail, fax or drop off in person the Registration Form, Waiver and Payment in Full. One can also pay over the phone with a credit card, send a cheque in the mail or pay in person when one registers.
